Susanis play an extremely important role in Uzbek culture. These large-sized cotton
fabrics decorated with silk or wool embroidery were traditionally used as wall coverings
or bedspreads. They were the traditional dowry of brides and were made by them and their
families. The name Susani has been formed from the Persian word Suzan, needle. These fine
needleworks are characterized by their distinct colorfulness and stylized floral ornaments.
