Lot 539 | Bronze-Attasche mit dem Haupt des Jupiter-Ammon, römisch, 1. - 2. Jahrhundert
Estimate value
€ 2 000

A Roman handle attachment with the head of Jupiter-Ammon, 1st - 2nd century
Heavy and elaborately crafted bronze attache with the head of Jupiter-Ammon. The bearded god with deep-set eyes that once had silver inlays. He has the ram's horns typical of him, bent into a circle and enclosing small sheep's ears. The head emerges from a large, serrated leaf. A massive, ring-shaped handle decorated with garlands sits on the head. The attache was probably once attached to a high-quality bronze cauldron. Beautiful green-reddish patina. Mounted on a wooden base, easily removable label of Artcurial Auction (2019) and label of the collection "Y. et J. Deschamps" on the reverse. Dimensions 10.5 x 6.5 x 2.5 cm, with base 19.5 x 6.5 x 5 cm.
