Bronze of the Buddha Shakyamuni in front of a flaming Mandorla, CHINA, Northern Qi dynasty, dated to 571
H. 23 cm
The back of the Mandorla with inscription, dated to the second year of the Wuping period, 571. Buddha Shakyamuni wearing a flowing drapery thrown Robe hanging in Varadamudra and Abhayamudra, with Bodhisattavas on pedestals in the Mandorla behind him, and an Abbot over it. The small tongues of flame of the Mandorla to symbolize the rays of light of the Buddha's appearance and teaching.
