Bronzene Schöpfkelle mit Tierköpfen in hellenistischer Tradition,, römisch, 1. Hälfte 1. Jhdt. n. Chr.
Schöpfkelle (Simpulum) mit relativ flacher, eigentlicher Kelle und langem, bandförmigem Stiel mit zwei Verbreiterungen oberhalb der Kelle und am umgebogenen, oberen Ende, dazwischen das schmale, glatte Mittelstück, das sich nach oben hin verjüngt. Auf den Verbreiterungen direkt an das schmale Mittelstück angrenzend Ritzverzierungen: ein von zwei horizontalen Linien eingefasstes "X". Auf der Innenseite der Kelle geht direkt unterhalb des Kellenrandes bzw. des Stielendes ein Vogelkopf mit langem, leicht gebogenem Schnabel hervor (wohl Ibis). Am oberen Ende geht das umgebogene Ende in einen Pferdekopf über, dessen Hals und Mähne noch zum Teil ausgeformt sind, die Mähne durch s-förmige Rillen strukturiert. Kleiner Gussfehler am rechten Rand der Kelle in Gestalt einer leichten Einbuchtung des Randes. Dunkelgrüne Patina mit leichten Inkrustationen. Sonst vollkommen intaktes und eindrucksvolles Schöpfgerät von guter, handwerklicher Qualität. Länge 34 cm, Breite der Kelle 9 cm.

The ladle (simpulum) with a relatively shallow scoop and a long, band-shaped handle. Two wider sections, one above the scoop and one at the upper, folded end, between which the narrow, smooth central section tapers upwards. Ornamental incisions – an "X" surrounded by two horizontal lines – on these wider pieces, directly adjacent to the narrow central section. On the inside of the ladle, a bird's head with a long, slightly curved beak (presumably an ibis) emerges directly below the edge of the scoop at the bottom of the handle. At the opposite end, the folded handle extending into a horse's head, the neck and mane partially delineated, the mane structured by s-shaped grooves. A small casting defect on the right rim of the scoop in the form of a slight indentation. Dark green patina with slight incrustation. Otherwise, the splendid ladle is fully intact, wrought with good craftsmanship. Length 34 cm, width of the scoop 9 cm.
Provenance: South German private collection (inherited estate), acquired by the consignor's father in the north Bavarian art trade during the 1970s and 80s.

Each of the auction houses has its own payment policy for the won lots. All auction houses accept bank transfers, most of them accept credit card payments. Shipment of the won lot depends on its size. Small items can be delivered by post. Larger lots are sent by courier. Employees of the auction houses will offer you a wide range to choose from.
