Bronzenes Trinkhorn mit Standfuß mit scheibenförmiger Basis am unteren Ende. Die weite Mündung leicht auswärts gebogen, unter der Randzone eine horizontal verlaufende Rippe. Unten geht das Horn nach einer Wulst in eine Pferdeprotome mit angewinkelten Vorderbeinen über. Der Kopf mit angelegtem Zaumzeug. Auf der Brust eine röhrenförmige Öffnung zum dosierten Ausgießen von Trankopfern. Braune Patina, partiell mit roten und grünen Oxydauflagen, meist im Mündungsbereich und am Standfuß. Zwei kleine Durchbrüche im oberen Bereich unterhalb der Rippe nahe dem Rand. Sonst intakt. Höhe 24 cm. Durchmesser der Mündung 10,5 cm.
Provenienz: Spanische Privatsammlung, erworben 2021 im englischen Kunsthandel. Zuvor englische Privatsammlung M. A. Davor in einer englischen Galerie, erworben aus einer englischen Privatsammlung, die seit den 70er Jahren zusammengestellt worden ist.
An Achaemenid bronze rhyton with horse head protome, 5th - 4th century B.C.
Bronze drinking horn with a stand with a disc-shaped base at the lower end. The wide mouth slightly curved outwards, a horizontal rib under the rim. At the bottom, after a bulge, the horn merges into a horse protome with bent forelegs. The head with a bridle attached. On the chest a tubular opening for the dosed pouring of libations. Brown patina, partially with red and green oxide layers, mostly in the mouth area and at the base. Two small breakthroughs in the upper area below the rib near the rim. Otherwise intact. Height 24 cm. Diameter of the muzzle 10.5 cm.
Provenance: Spanish private collection, acquired in 2021 in the English art trade. Previously English private collection M. A. Previously in an English gallery, acquired from an English private collection assembled since the 1970s.
