Das bundfreie Clavichord aus der Orgel- und Tasteninstrumentenbauerfamilie Schmahl wurde von Christoph Friedrich Schmahl (1739-1814), Regensburg, in Nussbaum furniert gebaut. Auf dem Resonanzboden findet sich oben in Tinte die Signatur "C. Friedrich. Schmahl. In. Regensburg. 1805.". Bei Christoph Friedrich Schmahl, handelt es sich um den Cousin von Johann Matthäus Schmahl (1734-1793) aus Ulm, welcher mit seinem Schwiegervater Franz Jacob Späth (1714-1786) in Ulm unter dem Namen „Späth & Schmahl“ die berühmten Tangentenflügeln gebaut hat. Johann Matthäus Schmahl werden zudem auch die Hammerklaviere in Form einer liegenden Harfe zugeschrieben.
Das hintere Ruhepolster der Tasten besteht aus Wolltuch auf Pergamentpapier, auf dem Ausschnitte einer noch nicht näher untersuchten Textpassage notiert sind.
Die Klaviatur (FF-c4) hat ein Stichmaß von 47,7cm.
Die Tangenten bestehen aus Messing.

The unfretted walnut veneered clavichord was built by Christoph Friedrich Schmahl (1739-1814), Regensburg. He was a family member of the Schmahl family of organ and keyboard instrument makers. The soundboard bears the signature "C. Friedrich. Schmahl. In. Regensburg. 1805.". Christoph Friedrich Schmahl, is the cousin of Johann Matthäus Schmahl (1734-1793, who built the famous tangent pianos with his father-in-law Franz Jacob Späth (1714-1786) in Ulm. They signed as "Späth & Schmahl". Johann Matthäus Schmahl is also credited with fortepianos in the form of a lying harp.
The rear resting pad of the keys is made of woolen cloth on parchment paper, on which excerpts of a still unexamined text are visible.
The keyboard (FF-c4) has a 3-octave-span of 47.7cm.
The tangents are made of brass.
