Karl Kluth ( Halle/Saale, 1898 - Hamburg, 1972 ) . K. is one of the most outstanding Hamburger Modern painters, whose importance for the German avant-garde is not yet recognized adequately. K. studied at the Karlsruhe Academy under A. Haueisen, then as a master student of A. Babberger. Back in Hamburg, he was awarded 1928/29 with the first Lichtwark prize. E. Munch was in the early work the formative model for K. and by the end of the 20s & early 30s, he attended the master in Oslo and did some Work with him. K. adopted in 1951, is Professor at the Hochschule für Bildende Kunst in Hamburg, where he taught-among others-painters of the group of 'Zebra'. Among his other awards in 1957, was the Edwin-Scharff-prize of the city of Hamburg, he was also the guest of honour at the Villa Massimo in Rome. He remained artistically never once Reached until in old age he continued to implement new ideas.
