Polychrom gefasste Büste eines Mönches mit Tonsur und Kutte, stellenweise mit Resten von Vergoldung, auf rechteckigem, marmoriertem Sockel. Stellenweise rissig und bestoßen, rückseitig Restauration, einige Wurmlöcher sowie mehrere Bohrungen für diverse Montierungen, auf dem Scheitel ein Bohrloch, möglicherweise zur Befestigung eines Nimbus. Höhe 49 cm.
Obwohl bei dieser Büste die üblichen Stigmata, die als Attribut gelten, logischerweise nicht sichtbar sind, darf man davon ausgehen, dass es sich bei einer so qualitativ hochwertigen Büste um die Darstellung des Hl. Franziskus handelt.
Johann Meinrad Guggenbichler (* 17. April 1649 in Einsiedeln, Schweiz; † 10. Mai 1723 in Mondsee, Oberösterreich) war ein Bildhauer des Barocks, der seine Lehrzeit im bayerischen Dillingen absolvierte und dann im Salzburgischen und in Oberösterreich tätig war.

An Austrian bust of a monk, possibly St. Francis, attributed to Johann Meinrad Guggenbichler, 17th/18th century
Painted in colour, the bust of a monk with tonsure and cowl, with remnants of gilding here and there, mounted on a rectangular, marbled pedestal. Cracked and knocked in places, restored at the back, some worm damage and several perforations for various mountings, a hole drilled at the crown, possibly to attach a nimbus. Height 49 cm. Although, needless to say, this bust does not feature the usual stigmata, which are regarded as his attribute, it may be assumed that a bust of this high calibre is a portrait of St. Francis.
The baroque sculptor Johann Meinrad Guggenbichler (* 17 April 1649 in Einsiedeln, Switzerland; † 10 May 1723 in Mondsee, Upper Austria) completed his apprenticeship in the Bavarian town of Dillingen and subsequently worked in the region of Salzburg and Upper Austria.
