Description: Large figurine of Calliope from a series of the "Nine Muses and Apollo". She sits, dressed
in a light yellow robe and a richly decorated breastplate, on a curved rocaille pedestal.
Over one shoulder falls a cloak decorated with flowers. On her head rests a tiara. In one
hand she holds a spear, with the other a stylus. In her lap lies an open book. Next to her
right hip, on a shield, lies her helmet.
Measurement: Height 40cm.
Mark: Swordsmark, 70518.
Calliope is the muse of epic poetry, scholarship and philosophy. Her attributes are a
writing board, a book and a stylus. According to the legend, she is the oldest and
highest-ranking Muse. Therefore, she was the judge in the dispute between the goddesses
Aphrodite and Persephone, who were both trying for Adonis. Her authority is indicated by
spear, shield and helmet.
