Dorfidyll
Blick in den schluchtartigen, sonnenbeschienenen, steinigen, gestuft ansteigenden Weg eines oberbayerischen Bergdorfes, der von einem älteren Bauern mit blauer Jacke und gelbem Strohhut in Rückenansicht beschritten wird. Auf der linken Seite ein altertümlicher Brunnen, aus dem das Wasser in weitem Strahl herausströmt und vor dem sich eine Lache ausgebreitet hat; hinter dem Bauern auf der rechten Bildseite hoch aufragende Gehöfte mit vorkragenden Dächern, der Himmel lebendig bewölkt. Hierzu schreibt Adolf Alt im Vorwort zum Auktionskatalog der Versteigerung bei Hugo Helbing (1926): " 'Die Dorfidylle' mit ihrem plätschernden Brunnen, den steinbeschwerten Häusern und dem auch anscheinend beschwerten Dorfbewohner bot dem Künstler Gelegenheit, architektonisches und perspektivisches Können auf kleinstem Raum zu vereinen". Das kleinformatige Gemälde entstand um 1871-1875 und zeigt eindrucksvoll, wie sehr Spitzweg die Einflüsse der Schule von Barbizon aufnahm und in seiner aufgelockerten Malweise bereits dem Impressionismus nahestand. Es ging ihm nicht mehr um die realistische Wiedergabe von Details, sondern um eine durch das Licht gesteigerte Gesamtstimmung. In seiner Reifezeit wandte sich Spitzweg zunehmend Landschaften zu, die zu den schönsten des 19. Jhs. zählen. Bestärkt wurde Spitzweg hierbei durch den eng befreundeten Eduard Schleich d. Ä., der als bedeutender Wegbereiter der Freilichtmalerei in Deutschland gilt. Mit ihm unternahm Spitzweg zahlreiche Reisen, u. a. 1851 nach Paris, wo die Schule von Barbizon großen Eindruck auf beide Künstler machte. Öl/Holztafel. Verso Nachlass-Stempel. 13,5 cm x 10,2 cm. Aufgeführt in den Werkverzeichnissen von Günther Roennefahrt (München 1960, Nr. 706, mit Farbabb. auf S. 38) und Siegfried Wichmann (Stuttgart 2002, Nr. 1542, mit Abb.). In beiden Werkverzeichnissen wird fälschlich eine nicht vorhandene Signatur l. u. angegeben.
