GENEALOGY & HERALDRY – Carta Executoria of Don Thomas Antonio Pérez de Anda, issued by Carlos III of Spain, illuminated manuscript on vellum, officially drawn up and attested by Don Julian Joseph Brochero, principal king of arms of Spain, Madrid, 2 August 1780; appended history of the family, manuscript on paper, signed with rubrics by Francisco Javier de Urbina and others, Ciudad de Victoria, 1 Sept. 1778.

295 x 205mm, armorial devices, historiated initials and vignettes, and portrait of Carlos III painted in colors and gilt on 56 vellum leaves, and detailed family tree on one large folded vellum leaf; followed by text and historiated initials in ink on 178 leaves of paper (i.e. 234 leaves total). Contemporary Spanish red morocco, arms of Charles III, King of Spain (1716-1788) on sides, silk flyleaves and text dividers throughout, all edges gilt.

A fine example of a carta executoria from 18th-century Spain, outlining the history, pedigree and arms of Thomas Antonio Pérez de Anda, López Díaz de Montoya, a resident of Madrid, and of the various branches of his family. The manuscript is elegantly scribed in Spanish, elaborately illuminated, and handsomely bound. Ornate gilt borders with floral motif surround each of the text pages.
