Little marks and shapes because of the frame.
The painting derives form Alexander Roslin's in 1776 painted, full-length portrait of Catherine II (1729-1796) today in the Hermitage, Saint Petersburg. The present painting was probably painted in the studio or periphery of Roslin. Copies of his paintings had been made for example by Dimitriy Levizky and Feodor Rokotov.
