Finely printed edition of this philosophical treatise by Cicero divided into three books, where his conception of the rules of behavior and moral duties that every man must follow as a member of the state is exposed.

Folio (300 x 215mm). Title with printer's device depicting a man holding a turtle and a bird, woodcut illustrations in text and engraved initials (occasional slight browning, upper margins of the final leaves with some dampstaining, slight soiling). 18th-19th-century vellum, gilt title on spine label, blue edges, preserved in an elegant modern paper box.
