Édition originale de ce dictionnaire, l’un des premiers en langue vernaculaire en Europe. Tiré à 1000 exemplaires, il fut la référence de la langue espagnole jusqu’à celui publié par l'Académie royale espagnole en 1780. Cobarrubias fut homme d’Église et membre du tribunal de l’Inquisition.

Titre aux armes de la couronne d’Espagne, dédicace au roi Philippe III, (restaurations au titre, “el mayor” barré à l’encre des feuillets ¶4 et ¶5, brunissures aux feuillets D4, D5, D6, Kkk3, Kkk5, mouillures aux coins inférieurs des feuillets H8, I1 et I2). Reliure pastiche moderne : veau marbré, dos à nerfs, nerfs ornés, pièce de titre en maroquin, garde en papier marbré, tranches orangées (très légères griffures sur les plats).



Provenance : Juan Jiménez de Montalvo (1551-1629 signature au dos du titre) -- Manuel de Foronda y Gómez (1907-1969, ex-libris).



First edition of this dictionary, which was the reference for the Spanish language until it was published by the Spanish Royal Academy in 1780. One of the first vernacular dictionaries published in Europe, with a print run of 1,000 copies.
