Lot 2116 | Colt Walker Perkussionsrevolver, N. Gilon Lizenzfertigung, Lüttich, um 1850
Estimate value
€ 12 000

A Belgian Colt Walker revolver, under license by N. Gilon, Liège, circa 1850
Cal. .44(BlackPowder), SN. 4327, rifled 9" barrel with slightly frosted bore, rifling still pretty good. The barrel top marked "COLT BREVETE". Spring-loaded loading lever. Six-shot cylinder with moderate tendril engravings, the front marked "NG" and "N GILON". Unmarked frame. Good timing and mechanics. Trigger guard and front strap brass. Serial number on the underside of the barrel extension, frame and trigger guard as well as on the bottom strap of the frame. Moderately reworked walnut grips. The entire surface reworked, while maintaining all original markings. Partly some minor pitting and bumping. Overall length 39.5 cm.
In "Flayderman's Guide to Antique American Firearms" (8th edition) the author calls the Colt Walker on page 72 "...the greatest prize of any Colt collection", referring to the fact that hardly 10% of all Walkers ever made have survived to this day. This gun is an as-rare Walker built under license in Belgium. In their reference book "Colt Brevete Revolvers", Tucson, AZ, the authors Marcot and Paxton mention only three Walkers built under license known to exist, one of which also made by Gilon in Liège. See pages 40, 66ff., 147 and 334). Thus it appears justified to say that this revolver is the fourth known such licensed make worldwide - they don't come any rarer than that! Marcot/Paxton's book is included.
WBK: Attention - For this gun we will need to obtain an export license for you, based on your import permit (if needed in your country) or through your firearms dealer - more info here
