BONAPARTE, Charles Lucien (1803-1857). Conspectus generum avium. Leiden: E. J. Brill, 1850. First edition of Bonaparte's monumental catalogue of all known bird species. For 19th-century ornithologists, if a bird wasn't in this book, it was a new species ripe for description and naming rights. Two volumes, octavo (231 x 142mm). Half titles (a little spotting). Contemporary half calf over marbled boards. Provenance: Lord Lilford – H. Bradley Martin (bookplate).
