Evening forest landscape with a small lake and rastendem deer, Oil on canvas, doubl., In 1873, 73,5x60,5 cm, bottom left, monogram "G. C.". Verso on old label titled, dated and inscribed "Paysage Suisse Le Falaise du Jura, 1873 G. C.". Another old label shows a Portrait of the old Gustave Courbet, in a round neckline. In The Ceremonial Context. The colors of the painting are darkened due to age. Restored with retouches, min. Paint chipping & operation, lightweight frame imprint on the outer edges.

In the year of creation of the painting, 1873, flea Courbet because of his debt to the French government in Switzerland, in the familiar Jura, where he spent his last years spent and where a new Phase of his artistic creation began, and he's a rich, scenic embossed late work created. This painting with the shy, backward-looking deer in the dusk could bring the Situation of Courbet at this time. In advanced years, Courbet is a relationship with the Jura countryside, as a child he grew up in and continues his impressions in the quiet artist to the tones developed. The authenticity of this outstanding landscape painting from the late work of Courbet is based on the accompanying, hand-written opinion of the journalist, historian and art critic Charles Léger (1880-1948) from the year 1942, and confirmed by two other reviewers: in the year 1954 by A. Wurster, Munich and in the year 1975 again confirmed by Dr. Hans Geiger (of the industrial chamber of Commerce and sworn expert for paintings)
