Abgebildet werden Außenansicht und Grundriss (Zellen und Folterstätte) eines Hexengefängnisses, das im Jahr 1627 auf Veranlassung des Fürstbischofs Johann Georg II. Fuchs von Dornheim erbaut wurde. Obwohl es nur wenige Jahre seiner Funktion diente, beherbergte es fast 1000 der Hexerei bezichtigte Bürger, von denen die meisten hingerichtet wurden. Es wurde bereits 1635 wieder abgerissen.

"True and genuine depiction of the newly built witch house, established to punish and convert those malicious, apostatized people, accused of witchcraft..." (translated). Single-sheet print based on a copper plate presumably by Peter Isselburg (previously attributed to Matthäus Merian), no date, place or printer; Bamberg, 1627. Paper with hardly any browning or foxing, good print, centerfold, minor damage to the edges, a tiny repair in the title hardly visible. Dimensions 27 x 25 cm. Rare, only very few copies known in various libraries in Europe.
The print shows a view of this jail and its floorplan with prison cells and torture chamber. Built in 1627 at the height of the witch frenzy in Bamberg by bishop Johann Georg II. Fuchs von Dornheim it served its purpose for a few years only. Nonetheless almost 1000 prisoners were jailed and tortured here, most of which were later executed. It was torn down in 1635.

The results of the auction are published within a few days after the end of the auction. In the top menu of the site, find the tab "Auctions". Click on it and you will be on the auction catalog page, where you can easily find the category "Results". After opening it, select the desired auction from the list, enter and view the current status of the interested lot.
The information about the auction winners is confidential. The auction winner will receive a direct notification from the auction house responsible with instructions for further action: an invoice for payment and the manner in which the goods will be received.
Each of the auction houses has its own payment policy for the won lots. All auction houses accept bank transfers, most of them accept credit card payments. In the near future you will find detailed information for each case in the section "Auction information" on the page of the auction catalog and the lot.
Shipment of the won lot depends on its size. Small items can be delivered by post. Larger lots are sent by courier. Employees of the auction houses will offer you a wide range to choose from.
