Auf diesem Thangka ist die Grüne Tara mit acht ihrer Emanationen dargestellt. Über ihnen am blauem Himmel schweben die "Herren der Drei Familien", wie Avalokiteshvara, Manjushri und Vajrapani gemeinsam genannt werden. Der weiß wie der Mond strahlende Avalokiteshvara, der die Lotus-Fan1ilie anführt, ist in der Mitte zu sehen. Der golden schimmernde, jugendlich wirkende Manjushri, der die Tathagata-Familie repräsentiert, befindet sich links davon. Gegenüber davon ist der tiefblaue Vajrapani aus der Vajra-Familie dargestellt. Sie werden zusammen angerufen, um Glück zu erlangen, aber auch, um sich unter ihren Schutz zu stellen. Unter ihnen sitzt die Grüne Tara des Khadira-Waldes in entspannter Haltung auf einem weißen Lotos in einem Gebirgssee. Der Khadira-Baum ist eine Art Sandelholzbaum, weshalb sie auch als Grüne Tara des Sandelholz-Waldes bezeichnet wird. Das saftige grüne Laubwerk, das sie umgibt und das bis in den Himmel reicht, spielt auf ihren Namen an und versinnbildlicht ihren besonderen Charakter. Zu ihren Füßen liebevoll in der Landschaft verteilt, sind die acht Taras, die ihr dabei helfen, die Gläubigen vor Gefahren und Schaden zu schützen. Ihr Äußeres ist identisch, weshalb ihnen besonders in der späteren Malerei Attribute hinzugefügt wurden, um auch bildlich auszudrücken, vor welcher Gefahr diese Manifestation jeweils bewahrt. Links von der zentralen Figur sieht man diejenige Tara, die einem bei angreifenden Löwen beisteht. Rechts davon am anderen Bildrand sitzt eine Tara, die einen vor wild gewordenen Elefanten schützt. Ein wenig unterhalb davon, an der linken Uferseite des Sees, bietet eine Tara ihren sicheren Schutz vor Feuerbränden an. Auch der Bedrohung von giftigen Schlangen kann man entgehen, wenn man sich an eine Tara wendet. Reisende hofften mithilfe der beiden Taras unten in der Bildmitte. von Begegnungen mit fleischfressenden Dämonen und Räubern verschont zu bleiben. Die beiden Taras in den äußeren Bildecken schützen vor dem Tod durch Ertrinken und vor der Getalu; ins Gefängnis geworfen zu werden. Seidenbrokat-Montierung.
