Gussfigur aus Schokolade. H. 22 x 17 x 14 cm. Der Intention des Künstlers entsprechend mit Altersspuren wie sog. Fettreif, Rissen und Abbröckelungen, ein Fuß von Anfang an lose. "Löwenselbst" ist sowohl eine Hommage an Dieter Roths damalige Lebensgefährtin Dorothy Iannone (geb. Boston 1933) als auch eine Selbstdarstellung als sitzender Löwe. - Die Verwendung von Schokolade und die Veränderung des Materials bis hin zur Auflösung entspricht der künstlerischen Praxis von Dieter Roth, in dessen Werk Verwesung und Vergänglichkeit eine zentrale Rolle spielen - Provenienz: Aus der Sammlung der mit Dieter Roth befreundeten Dr. Gabriele Hartmann, Hamburg. - Schweizer Dichter, Graphiker, Aktions- und Objektkünstler. R. war ein wichtiger Verteter der 'Konkreten Poesie' und der Eat-Art und stand auch in Kontakt zu Fluxus-Künstlern in New York. Seine Werke wurden zweimal auf der Documenta ausgestellt. Seine immer wieder auch humorvollen Kunstwerke greifen die Veränderlichkeit und Vergänglichkeit konkret in ihren Materialien auf.
