First edition, folio (467 x 297mm.), 28 engraved plates by and after Ferdinand Bauer (22), John Lindley (5) and Franz Andreas Bauer (1, engraved by William Hooker), all finely hand-coloured, plates 20 and 25 with overslips correcting the binomial captions, extra-illustrated with 50 lithographed plates from another (unidentified) work, some fully or partially hand-coloured, some on paper watermarked "T Edmunds 1822", later buckram boards, some spotting and browning

A seminal work on foxgloves by John Lindley, secretary to the Royal Horticultural Society, jointly illustrated by Ferdinand Bauer, one of the greatest of all botanical artists.
