The forge in Inzell, On the stretcher old adhesive label of known (damaged) ibid means "The forge in Inzell at the red Traun / country court Traunstein / 1820 painted Cantius of Dillis.". Oil on canvas 29 x 34.5 cm. Restoration. Min. damaged frame damage On the frame numbering 890. On the back of the frame label with the owner's endorsement of Fr. Messerer, Munich. Cantius Dillis was the youngest brother of Johann Georg von Dillis. Of this, in which he lived his life and worked, he received his artistic training. Together, the brothers also took trips to Italy and France. 1801 Cantius Dillis Hofkupferstecher, 1807 court painter, and in 1824, finally, honorary member of the Munich Academy. The paintings of Cantius Dillis were due to their subject matter, in the upper Bavarian landscape, with the collectors very popular. Apparently aware of Cantius of leaned to the painting style of his older brother, which both frequently led to confusion of the works. Nevertheless, the formation of a quite personal Malstiles, characterised by its picturesque qualities, as in the present painting, the small-scale figure staffage succeeded him.
