First French edition of the classic treatise on the aquatic flora of the Adriatic Sea by the biologist Vitalino Donati. This work had an important impact in the field of biology thanks to the author's discoveries on coral and in particular on Fucus and its sexual reproduction. The work also contains a new plant, called Vitaliana in honor of the author, whose natural habitat is found on the San Pellegrino mountain.

Frontispiece in red and black with woodcut arms, woodcut head and tailpieces, 11 engraved and hand-coloured plates, two of which are slightly browned (light soiling and scattered browning). Contemporary marbled calf with triple gilt fillet, gilt edges, decorations and title on spine label (weak joints and extremities lightly rubbed).
