DUHAMEL DU MONCEAU, Henri-Louis (1700-1782) - Traité des arbres et arbustes. Paris: H.L.Guerin & L.F.Delatour, 1755. First edition of this important and influential work on every aspect of planting, growing and maintaining trees. The beautiful large woodcut illustrations are in part printed from blocks made by Giorgio Liberale and Wolfgang Meyerpeck for Mattioli's herbal two centuries earlier, which Duhamel had acquired for use in this work. 2 volumes, 4to (261 x 200mm). Half-titles, numerous fine engraved headpieces, 250 woodcut plates and 4 engraved folding plates (half-title and first title slightly shorter and repaired, occasional light spotting and some staining at beginning, leaf A1 in vol. I and A4 in vol. II with paperflaw causing small tear at inner margin, central stain at verso of plate on p. 256 showing on recto, final leaf lightly damaged). Contemporary tree calf, gilt spine, red edges (weak joints, some rubbing and scuffing).
