"The little Republican," signed lower Right and in 1848 dated. Oil on canvas on panel. 81 x 95.5 cm. Restoration. Frame. A little Boy, as a "Republican" dressed, instructed a the attention of males is to get your dog. In the bowl on the right is the name "M. Bar. v. bacon Const[...]". The present painting was formerly in the collection of the famous art collector, Maximilian Speck von sternburg (1776 Gröba - 1856, Leipzig). Shortly after its formation, it has been discussed very positively: "[...] v. F. Dürck a highly amusing, mentally fresh and shiny truth full genre piece whose subject matter is the road Murillo boys could's remember [...] A ragged boy of the people, with magnificent lush face parodirt reflected the will of the people weapons, by providing a shaggy dog Guard and soldier skills Exercitium. [...] The Humor are faring here in the freshest theme of the time, and proves in bright, vibrant colors that the art can also be found in the era of political turmoil, with Jovialität ideal moments" (chronicle of the present, see below). Maximilian Speck von sternburg had already acquired earlier paintings Friedrich Dürcks. The native of Leipzig Dürck received instruction in drawing in the case of Hans Veit Schnorr von Carolsfeld in Leipzig, from 1824-1829, he was a student at the Munich Academy and of his uncle Joseph Stieler. Although he was primarily as a portrait painter and also his less numerous genre paintings are characterized by their artistic and emotional quality. In the case of the present painting by Friedrich Dürck humor plays on the events of the "March revolution" in 1848/49: The aging Baron Speck von sternburg - this was in 1848, already 72 years old - in the form of the docile dog, the empty (!) Bowl bears the name of the Baron, learns from the talk of the street boy who stands for nothing other than the insurgents who attempted its democratic ideas to enforce.
