The present painting is an interesting collage of various motifs. It combines Italian and Flemish cues in a single compositional space, proving the inventive and combinatorial ability of the painter, now unknown. The group of Bacchae on the right derives from the Horen accompanying the chariot of Apollo, painted by Guido Reni 1613 and 1614 as a fresco on the ceiling of the Casino afferent to the Borghese palace on the Quirinal hill in Rome (today Pallavicini Rospigliosi on the Quirinal). The animals in the center, on the other hand, derive from scenes from Paradise by Flemish painter Roelant Savery. The artist probably drew these cues from engravings that were sold in markets throughout Europe and perhaps direct viewing of some of Savery's work. The result is a new painting, a product of different cues but at the same time unified and convincing.
