Pontius Pilatus präsentiert dem Volk den gefolterten, in Purpur gekleideten und dornengekrönten Jesus von Nazaret. Auf dem Keilrahmen Klebeetikett Fideikommiss Herzog Clemens Franz de Paula von Bayern mit Nummerierung 7. Öl auf Leinwand 138 x 110,5 cm. Doubliert. Restaurierung. Rahmen beschädigt Jacopo Amigoni (im Spanischen auch als ''Santiago Amiconi'' bezeichnet) zählt zu den bedeutendsten Künstlern der ersten Hälfte des 18. Jahrhunderts. Seine erste Ausbildung erhielt er im Umkreis des Luca Giordano, Francesco Solimena und die ''Römische Schule'' als solche beeinflussten seine künstlerischen Anfänge. 1711 wird seine Name erstmals in der ''Fraglia'' der Maler in Venedig genannt. Die Arbeiten der in Venedig führenden Künstler Antonio Bellucci, Sebastiano Ricci, Antonio Balestra und Giovanni Antonio Pellegrini wie auch der berühmten (Pastell-) Künstlerin Rosalba Carriera beeindrucken und prägen ihn in dieser Zeit. Seit 1717 ist Jacopo Amigoni in Bayern und Oberschwaben tätig, zunächst in Schloss Nymphenburg, seit 1719 mit Arbeiten für Schloss Schleißheim beauftragt, später dann in der Benediktinerabtei Ottobeuren tätig. Sein weiterer Lebensweg führt ihn über England (1729) und Frankreich zurück in seine italienische Heimat. 1747 verlässt er diese dann endgültig, um nach Madrid zu gehen. Der nunmehr königliche Hofmaler war dort bis zu seinem Tod auch erster Direktor der neu gegründeten Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando. Jacopo Amigoni erweist sich bereits mit seinen frühen, in Bayern entstandenen Arbeiten als einer der ersten ''reinen'' Vertreter des venezianischen Rokoko und zugleich als einer der Schöpfer des europaweit geschätzten Rokokos. In Süddeutschland wurde seine künstlerische Handschrift als ''stile Amigoni'' geadelt. Annalisa Scarpa erkennt auf Basis von Fotografien im vorliegenden Gemälde typische künstlerische Merkmale der Schaffenszeit Amigonis in Bayern, seinen ''anni bavaresi''. Dott.ssa Annalisa Scarpa, Venedig, bestätigte auf Basis von Fotografien am 1. Februar 2021 die Authentizität des Gemäldes. Sie vermutet eine Entstehung kurz vor Amigonis Abreise nach England (1729). Provenienz: Clementinum. - 1932 aus dem Depot der Bayerischen Staatsgemäldesammlungen an Prinz Franz von Bayern abgegeben.
