Rider battle between Austrians and Poland during the Napoleonic wars, in an Alpine village in 1812
Dramatically detailed skirmishes. In the foreground, against attacking Polish cavalry at the end of fight the Austrian horsemen, and a fleeing woman with her son, and to the cattle. In the Background a view on the Church village and an atmospherically tuned Alpine landscape. Very fine nature of the painted, very detail rich, vibrant story, with masterfully carefully observed, and faithfully reproduced horses and uniforms. The artistic high-quality and historically significant paintings is one of the very few well-known history paintings of Edward of Steinles, 1834-1837 based in Vienna, Austria. Oil/canvas; cardboard laminated. L. u. on a stone in the foreground ligature Monograph. u undeutl. Dat. 1834(?). 44.5 cm x 57 cm. Original A Frame.
