Lot 410 | Ein Paar kleine Globen, Johann Gabriel Doppelmayr, Nürnberg, datiert 1736
Estimate value
€ 5 200
The wooden globes covered with hand-coloured copper engravings, on the original stands. The meridian rings and mounted hour rings made of brass, with intricately engraved scaling and stamped numbers. The horizon rings made of papier mâché. The terrestrial globe rubbed in the northern hemisphere, with minor abrasions in places. The baroque signature cartouche not cleaned and barely legible. The celestial globe in better condition, the cartouche clearly legible. One ball foot lost from the terrestrial globe, one of the celestial globe's feet damaged. Diameter of the globes circa 10 cm each, overall height 15.5 cm each.
A superb pair of globes in attractive, uncleaned condition. Unlike the larger versions, measuring 20 cm and 32 cm in diameter, Doppelmayr only produced a limited number of 10 cm globes.
