A BRONZE CENSER IN FORM OF AN ELEPHANT Japan, Meiji period Bronze. H. 26 cm. The censer is in the shape of an elephant. The elephant's head is raised high, the tapestry on the back is decorated with a dragon, head and tail with jewellery. The elephant carries a bronze bell on its back. The surface of the bell is carved with exotic animals and cloud patterns, and a phoenix stands on the top of the bell. With slight traces of use.

Der Kopf des Elefanten ist hoch erhoben, der Gobelin auf der Rueckseite ist mit einem Drachen verziert, Kopf und Schwanz mit Schmuck. Der Elefant traegt eine Bronzeglocke auf dem Ruecken. Die Oberflaeche der Glocke ist mit exotischen Tieren und Wolkenmustern geschnitzt, auf der Spitze der Glocke steht ein Phoenix. Mit leichten Gebrauchsspuren.
