Fein geschnitzte Figur aus Elfenbein. Darstellung eines Marketenders oder Vaganten in zerlumpter Kleidung. Auf dem Rücken ein großes, verschnürtes Bündel, am rechten Arm ein geflochtener Korb mit einem Hahn. Am unteren Ende des Tragestocks eine Feldflasche, das obere Ende abgebrochen. Einteilig gearbeitete, leicht ovale Plinthe mit Begleitfigur eines kleinen Hundes. Elegant komponierte Figur, mit kraftvoller Körperdrehung. Im Fußbereich gebrochen, alt geklebt. Vereinzelte leichte Schwundrisse, durchlaufender, ausgefütterter Nervenkanal. Höhe 9 cm.

A Flemish ivory figurine of a sutler, circa 1700
The figurine finely carved in ivory, representing a sutler or vagrant in ragged clothes. Carrying a large, corded bundle on his back, a wicker basket with a cockerel on his right arm. A canteen at the lower end of his staff, the upper end broken off. The slightly oval plinth carved in one piece, the sutler accompanied by a small dog. Of elegant composition, the figure's body twisted vigorously. Broken at the area of the feet, glued with an old repair. Occasional, slight shrinkage cracks, a continuous, lined nerve channel. Height 9 cm.
