AN EMPIRE ORMOLU MOUNTED MAHOGANY, PARCEL GILT AND GREEN PAINTED GUERIDON - In the manner of Jean Joseph Chapuis, ca. 1825 - The circular moulded top above three shaped legs decorated with sea creatures and a central stepped column, on a tripartite plinth inlaid with a star motif, on castors. Restorations. - From an important German private Collection. Jean-Joseph Chapuis ( 1765-1864) was a well-known Brussels ebenist, his designs can be found in numerous museums and private collections. Usually his works are signed/stamped. In the Musées Royaux d'Art et d'Histroire in Brussels, there is a very similar table with dolphin legs that can be clearly attributed to Chapuis Lit Denise Ledoux-Lebard, Le mobilier français du XIXe siècle, Paris 1989, Edition de l'Amateur, p.118.
