Etsuzan Doshu (chin.: Yueshan Daozong) born originally in China, moved to Japan and the seventh Abbot of the Manpukuji temple in Uji, in the Kyoto Prefecture was there. This temple belonged to the Chinese, zen Buddhist Ôbaku sect. Etsuzan was calligraphers as one of the best Ôbaku and received the title of Sho no Etsuzan - provenance: From an important South German private collection of Chinese and Japanese painting, purchased at Kunsthandel Klefisch, Cologne, auction 30, 09.11.1985, no. 241 - Minim. rubbed, some light creases, slightly rest., as a hanging scroll mounted with knobs made of wood
