Lot 2505 | Fanfarentuch des Musikzuges der 1. Fallschirmjäger-Division
A clarion banner of the 1st Paratrooper Division's marching band
A clarion banner of the 1st Paratrooper Division's marching band
Rectangular cloth with a fringe on three sides. The front made of green silk with a paratrooper badge in silver embroidery. The back made of white silk with the Division emblem in coloured embroidery, showing a green devil riding on a red trident, "1. Fallschirmjäger Division" embroidered diagonally in gold across the lower right. Five fastening ribbons at the top. Dimensions approx. 40 x 48 cm.
The Division was the result of restructuring in May 1943, whereby the marching band received new kettle-drum and clarion banners. The German troops surrendered in Italy on 2 May 1945.
Several of the kettle-drum and clarion banners were concealed by members of the Division and brought back to Germany after the war. They are now in the Luftwaffe Museum in Berlin-Gatow. This banner was seized by a GI.
Extremely rare find, possibly the only privately owned banner.
