A BRONZE FIGURE OF A GUARDIAN - China, late Ming dynasty - Standing in firm posture with both feet apart, his hands clasped in front of his chest in anjalimudra, wearing armour, wide-sleeved tunic, scarf floating around his head with its streamers encircling both arms and their finials curling up, pair of trousers and boots, his face displaying a severe expression with open eyes below arched eyebrows running into the nose-bridge and his head topped with a helmet decorated with a plume, on wood base. - From the estate of the collection of the Consul General Dr. Karl Bernauer (1867-1929), collected in China between 1902 and 1915 and since then in family possession - Minor wear few, very small repairs

In fester Haltung stehend, beide Füße auseinander, die Hände vor der Brust im Anjalimudra verschränkt, mit Rüstung, weitärmeliger Tunika, um den Kopf wehendem Tuch, dessen Bänder beide Arme umschlingen und deren Zipfel sich aufrollen, Hose und Stiefeln, das Gesicht mit strengem Ausdruck, die Augen unter gewölbten, in den Nasensteg auslaufenden Augenbrauen geöffnet, auf dem Kopf ein mit einer Feder verzierter Helm, auf Holzsockel.
