Russia, In The Middle Of 17. Century
Single panel with two back-Sponki. Double Kowtscheg, egg tempera on chalk, partial gold plating. 32 x 25.7 cm. In the left half of the image of John the Baptist prior to his prison. He is seized by a soldier on the Arm. At the upper edge of Christ and an angel appear. The right half of the image deals with the beheading of the forward-leaning John. In the middle, the severed head of the Baptist is located in a Golden Cup. In the Background are a rugged cliff backdrop and architectures. This charming icon impresses with its fine, detailed execution. In shades of brown running faces are modeled by high lights. Color of the edge taken off, min. rest.
