A FINE PHYLLITE STONE STELE DEPICTING VISHNU - North-East India, Pala period, 12th c. - The stele is sculpted in high relief with Vishnu standing in samabhanga on a shaped base with the winged Garuda flanked by a pair of worshippers to its front, his four arms radiate around his body, the principle hands in varadamudra and holding shankha, both secondary hands with gada and chakra, wearing dhoti secured with an elaborate belt, garland draped around his shoulders, bejewelled, his face displaying a serene expression with almond-shaped eyes below arched eyebrows, incised urna at forehead, elongated earlobes with ear-ornaments, low kiritamakuta decorated with a pair of floating ribbons, flaming head-halo behind, flanked by the standing Sri Devi and Sarasvati holding vina, several minute attendants and divinities placed along both border sides and the upper section showing the central placed kirttimukha flanked to each side by a gandharva extending each a garland - Old German private collection, acquired in Bangladesh in 1969 - Slightly chipped

Die Stele ist in Hochrelief mit Vishnu in Samabhanga auf einem geformten Sockel stehend dargestellt, mit dem geflügelten Garuda flankiert von einem Paar Verehrern an der Vorderseite, seine vier Arme strahlenförmig um seinen Körper herum, die Haupthände in Varadamudra und Shankha haltend, beide Nebenhände mit Gada und Chakra, er trägt einen Dhoti, der mit einem kunstvollen Gürtel gesichert ist, eine Girlande ist um seine Schultern drapiert, er ist mit Juwelen geschmückt, sein Gesicht zeigt einen heiteren Ausdruck mit mandelförmigen Augen unter gewölbten Augenbrauen, eingeschnittene Urna auf der Stirn, verlängerte Ohrläppchen mit Ohrschmuck, niedrige Kiritamakuta, verziert mit einem Paar schwebender Bänder, flammender Kopf-Halo dahinter, flankiert von der stehenden Sri Devi und Sarasvati, die Vina halten, mehrere winzige Diener und Gottheiten entlang der beiden Randseiten platziert und der obere Abschnitt zeigt den zentral platzierten Kirttimukha, flankiert von je einem Gandharva, der eine Girlande reicht.

Shipment of the won lot depends on its size. Small items can be delivered by post. Larger lots are sent by courier. Employees of the auction houses will offer you a wide range to choose from.
