A FINE VITA ICON OF ST. NICHOLAS WITH SILVER-GILT BASMA Russian, probably Moscow or Solvychegodsk, Stroganov School, 2nd quarter 17th century, Russian, Moscow, 1864 (basma) Tempera on wood panel with kovcheg. Twelve episodes from the Saint's childhood, miracles and martyrdom surround his bust-lenghth portrait. All are meticulously painted against architectural backgrounds or landscapes. The edges minimally chipped. Overlaid with a finely chased and embossed silver-gilt basma. Viertel 17. Jh. (Ikone), Russland, Moskau, 1864 (Basma) Holztafel mit zwei Rückseiten-Sponki (einer verloren). Kowtscheg, Eitempera auf Kreidegrund, partielle Vergoldung. 31,7 x 27 cm. Punziert mit Stadtmarke, Beschaumeisterzeichen, Feingehalt '84' und Meisterzeichen 'IG' in Kyrillisch. Das Halbfigurenbildnis des Heiligen wird von zwölf Szenen aus seinem Leben entouriert. Das vergoldete Silberbasma ist sehr fein gearbeitet: geometrische Rosettenmotive auf punziertem Fond. Kanten min. best.
