A fascinating and monumental work by Ferrario which contains over 1798 plates mostly hand-coloured at the time that illustrate views, customs, geographical maps, ethnographic aspects and the arts around the world. Published for the first time in 1816-1826 in Milan, it was then reprinted in Florence by Batelli first in 1823-1838 and again in 1840-41.

34 volumes, 8vo (230 x 145mm). Half-title, ca. 1798 (of 1842) plates mostly in contemporary handcolouring, some folding tables, geographical maps of which two of the world and the others of Europe, America, South America, Africa, Asia, Oceania and Palestine (occasional staining and browning, a few leaves detached). Contemporary half calf, gilt title on spine (light wear)

The work is sold as described and is not subject to return. The plate count includes the numbered folding maps and the bis and tris plates; 44 plates called for in the index are missing. Provenance: Paolo Orlando (bookplate). (34)
