Dreifüßiger Dornleuchter aus stark bleihaltiger Zinn-Legierung. Die Basis aus drei sitzenden Kriegerfiguren mit normannisch/angelsächsischen, bodenlangen Kettenhemden, mit Nasalhelm und Brünne. Zwei der Figuren mit erhobenem Schwert, die dritte mit Axt. Darüber Figurengruppe aus einer Frau, eine gefesselte Gefangene führend, in ihrer Rechten einen Vogel haltend. Die dritte Figur ein Mann mit Schwert, ein Rufhorn blasend. Leicht gewölbte Tropfschale mit blütenförmigem Dekor und Resten des eisernen Dornes. Höhe 13 cm.
Leuchter dieser Art sind durch zahlreiche Funde in den Niederlanden, England, Norddeutschland und dem gesamten Ostseeraum belegt. Die Produktionsorte sind bisher nicht bekannt. Ein vom Aufbau der Figurengruppen sehr ähnlicher Leuchter befindet sich in der Sammlung des Klosters Rijnsburg in Südholland.
Das Gegenstück aus dem selben Fund wurde 2012 von Hermann Historica versteigert (Auktion 65, Los 551), Zuschlag bei 12.000 Euro.
Provenienz: Bodenfund in der Altstadt von Brügge um 1977, seit 1982 im Besitz des Einlieferers.

A North European Romanesque pewter candle holder, 11th/12th century
Pricket candle holder on three feet made from a heavily leaded pewter alloy. The base composed of three sitting warrior figures with Norman/Anglo-Saxon full-length mail shirts, nasal helmets and aventails. Two figures with raised swords, the third one with an axe. Surmounting the group of figures a woman leading a pinioned captive, holding a bird in her right hand. The third figure is a man with a sword, blowing a hunting horn. Slightly curved drip pan with blossom-shaped decorations and remnants of the iron pricket. Height 13 cm.
Candle holders of this type are proven by numerous finds in the Netherlands, England, North Germany and the whole Baltic Sea region, the production centres as yet unknown. Another candle holder with a similar arrangement of groups of figures is part of the collection at the Rijnsburg Cloister in South Holland.
The matching piece to this find was sold at auction at Hermann Historica (auction 65, lot 551), for 12,000 Euros.
Provenance: Earth find in the historic city centre of Bruges in 1977, since 1982 in the consignor's family.

The information about the auction winners is confidential. The auction winner will receive a direct notification from the auction house responsible with instructions for further action: an invoice for payment and the manner in which the goods will be received.
Each of the auction houses has its own payment policy for the won lots. All auction houses accept bank transfers, most of them accept credit card payments.
