A sophisticated and richly illustrated edition of the famous work by Foresti first printed in Venice in 1486. ??The work is remembered in particular for the 1493 edition in which the recent discoveries of America are described. This is the first edition with the addition of the 7 vignettes depicting the characters of the Bible.

Folio (308 x 208mm). title printed in red and black with woodcut borders and illustration, woodcut views, printer's device on final leaf, large full-page woodcut at the beginning of the text and first book within elaborate illustrated architectural border (some occasional foxing and light staining, f1 with lower corner repaired in margin). Modern antique-style vellum with laces and manuscript title on spine; preserved in a modern marbled paper case. Provenance: Ippolito Sigma (ownership inscription on the page) - antique bookplate with intertwined keys - Mostra del libro antico (label).
