Astronomical sammelband with the first appearances of four papers by Edmond Halley. This collection of Philosphical Transactions was gathered by an early annotator whose biographical and other notations appear in each of the four issues. In the first of Halley's papers, he calculated the distance of a meteor seen from England as 73 miles. The 1735 issue contains an article on the "Description and Use of a Gersten's Arithmetical Machine."

Small quarto (206 x 166mm). Illustrated with engraved plates. (Intermittent dampstain, toning, repaired hole to p.407 in no. 347 with three words in facsimile in Halley paper.) Late 18th/early 19th century half calf over marbled boards (rebacked, corners showing, new endpapers, f.f.e. detached). Provenance: early marginalia in the same hand, not before 1766.
