FRANS FRANCKEN THE YOUNGER 1581 Antwerp - 1642 Ibid THE MOCKING OF CHRIST Oil on copper plate. 35 x 29 cm (R. 45 x 38 cm). Verso: On the copper plate round embossed stamp of the plate maker with ligatured monogram "CK or GK" (1620-1640). The monogram of the copper plate maker can be found on other works created in the period between 1620 and 1640. For example, on the painting 'Diana and her Nymphs' (1620) by Hendrick de Clerck and the painting of 'Saint Paul' by Claude Vignon, from 1640. Cf. on this: Wadum, J. (2009). 'The scene of the Old Testament rendered in a dark dungeon room, against whose background the golden halo of rays and the naked body of Jesus effectively shine. Jesus sits in the midst of several figures who mock him with evil gestures. His wrists are bound, in his hand he holds a bulrush as a mocking gift, instead of a sceptre. The crown of thorns is on his head, his suffering gaze is directed upwards to the right. On the right edge of the picture are the figures of the scribes, first and foremost the high priest Caiaphas with an ermine collar and a headscarf with a scriptural band. Behind them is a barred window with moonlight streaming in, parallel to it in the upper left corner a spherical glass lantern set in iron bands, on the ground rods and whips next to the scourging pillar. The painting finely painted according to the style of the painter, in very good condition.' Das Monogramm des Kupfertafelmachers findet sich auf weiteren Werken, die in dem Zeitraum der Jahre 1620 und 1640 entstanden sind. 'Die Szene des Alten Testaments in einem dunklen Kerkerraum wiedergegeben, vor dessen Hintergrund der goldene Strahlennimbus sowie der nackte Körper Jesu wirksam aufleuchten. Jesus sitzt inmitten mehrerer Gestalten, die ihn durch üble Gesten verspotten. Seine Handgelenke gebunden, in der Hand hält er ein Binsenrohr als Spottgabe, anstelle eines Zepters. Auf dem Haupt die Dornenkrone, der leidende Blick ist nach rechts oben gerichtet. Am rechten Bildrand stehen die Gestalten der Schriftgelehrten, allen voran der Hohepriester Kaiphas mit Hermelinkragen und einem Kopftuch mit Schriftband. Dahinter ein vergittertes Fenster, durch das Mondlicht hereinbricht, parallel dazu in der linken oberen Ecke eine in Eisenbänder gefasste, kugelförmige Glaslaterne, am Boden Ruten und Peitschen neben dem Geißelungspfeiler. Das Gemälde dem Stil des Malers entsprechend fein gemalt, in sehr guter Erhaltung.' Each of the auction houses has its own payment policy for the won lots. All auction houses accept bank transfers, most of them accept credit card payments. Shipment of the won lot depends on its size. Small items can be delivered by post. Larger lots are sent by courier. Employees of the auction houses will offer you a wide range to choose from.
