Wood, carved, painted and gilded. Half-figure, three-dimensional relief, a still image-like representation of the Hl. Mauritius, represented as a Roman officer in a Golden one shoulder coat over tight-fitting chain shirt and a Zingulum gegürtetem Rock. In the lost left Hand, formerly the Holy lance-supporting. Semi-circular shaped back plate with the remnants of old version. Without The Hands. H. 65 cm.
According to the legend, Mauritius was the leader of the Thebäischen Legion, and was beheaded under the Emperor Maximiamus 240-310 ad as a Martyr. Since about 1250, he is usually depicted as a Mauritanian knight.
Carved, painted and lime wood. Both hands lost.
