A Near Eastern animal head, late 2nd century - early 1st century B.C.
Finely carved head of an animal with horn attachments and long ears hanging down the sides. The base of the neck is decorated geometrically all around and possibly suggests a neckband. Expressive small carving of ivory. Socketed. Length 3.2 cm. Height with base 6.5 cm.

Provenance: Munich private collection.

Fein geschnitzter Kopf eines Tieres mit Hornansätzen und seitlich herabhängenden, langen Ohren. Der Halsansatz ist umlaufend geometrisch verziert und deutet eventuell ein Halsband an. Ausdrucksstarke Kleinschnitzerei aus Elfenbein. Gesockelt. Länge 3,2 cm. Höhe mit Sockel 6,5 cm.

Provenienz: Münchner Privatsammlung, übernommen vom Vater.
