Erste Ausgabe. - Galilei schrieb diese Abhandlung in den 1590er, sie wurde jedoch posthum veröffentlicht. Der Text basiert auf Lesungen, die G. in den späten 1590er Jahren in Padua gehalten hatte. Das Thema dieser Lesung behandelt wahrscheinlich Sacroboscos "De Sphaera", das zu dieser Zeit am häufigsten verwendete Lehrmittel für Astronomie. Daher überrascht es nicht, dass G. in diesem Text dem von Sacrobosco beschriebenen ptolemäischen Modell folgte, in dem die Erde von der Sonne und anderen Planeten umkreist wird. - Der Herausgeber dieses Bandes war Urbano D'Aviso, dessen Name in einem Anagramm auf der Titelseite erscheint. - Tls. etwas stock- bzw. braunfl., wenige Bl. gebräunt, die gefaltet Taf. mit wenigen Falzeinrissen. St.a.V. Exlibris. - Eines der seltensten Werke von Galileo. - Ausruf gleich Schätzpreis. - First edition, rare. With engraved title, wood engraving in the text, 2 folded tables and 2 folded plates. Contemporary vellum, slightly stained, partly uneven, ties missing. Partly foxing or brown stained, few leaves browned, plates partly with tears in the folding. Stamp on end paper, exlibris.
