In dem mit weichem, pastosem Duktus gemalten, impressionistischen Gemälde schildert Melchers zwei Bauernmädchen vor einer Düne unter einem zartblauen Himmel mit Mondsichel; das eine in überraschend sonntäglicher Tracht beim Tragen eines Jochs mit Milcheimern, das andere in einfacher Kleidung mit Harke und Korb auf dem Rücken. Bei diesem Werk handelt es sich wohl um die erste Version des Gemäldes "In Holland", das Melchers 1887 auf dem Salon in Paris zeigte und 1891 in einer weiteren "In den Dünen" betitelten Version im Münchener Glaspalast. Letztere steht diesem Gemälde in seiner ursprünglichen Komposition am nächsten, im Gegensatz zur naturalistischen Pariser Version (heute im Melchers-Museum in Fredericksburg). Letztere überarbeitete er bis um 1890 stark - er übermalte u. a. die Mondsichel und fügte eine Windmühle und Häuser im oberen Bildteil ein. Melchers - einer der bedeutendsten amerikanischen Naturalisten und Impressionisten, studierte in Düsseldorf und Paris; angezogen von den malerischen Reizen Hollands ging Melchers nach Egmond, wo er 1884 eine Künstlerkolonie gründete. 1886 debütierte Melchers sensationell mit dem ersten Meisterwerk "Die Predigt" auf dem Pariser Salon; 1889 erhielt er einen Grand Prix auf der Weltausstellung. The results of the auction are published within a few days after the end of the auction. In the top menu of the site, find the tab "Auctions". Click on it and you will be on the auction catalog page, where you can easily find the category "Results". After opening it, select the desired auction from the list, enter and view the current status of the interested lot.
The information about the auction winners is confidential. The auction winner will receive a direct notification from the auction house responsible with instructions for further action: an invoice for payment and the manner in which the goods will be received.
Each of the auction houses has its own payment policy for the won lots. All auction houses accept bank transfers, most of them accept credit card payments. In the near future you will find detailed information for each case in the section "Auction information" on the page of the auction catalog and the lot.
Shipment of the won lot depends on its size. Small items can be delivered by post. Larger lots are sent by courier. Employees of the auction houses will offer you a wide range to choose from.
