An interesting set of works with entire chapters dedicated to food and drink. In particular, the subject of health conservation is discussed in detail by doctor Georg Pictorius of Villingen (c.1500-1569; known in German as Georg Maler). His dialogues contains a discussion about the importance of food with details on different types of meat, wine and vegetables; it also consideres fundamental factors as sleep, exercise, vacations and many other aspects of ordinary life.
2 works in one volume, the second being in two parts, 8vo (149 x 98mm). Printer's device on titles, woodcut initials (small hole to first leaf). 19th-century calf spine decorated in gilt over orange boards, blue speckled edges (some wear to top of spine). Provenance: early ownership inscription on title (trimmed in the second work) and contemporary annotations.
