Auf dem dreigliedrigen, feuervergoldeten Bronzesockel mit der eingeschlagenen Matrikelnummer "63" ruht auf drei in dunkler Bronze gehaltenen Granaten die Dedikationsplatte mit geschwärzter Inschrift "DAS OFFIZIERS-KORPS DES INFANTERIE LEIB-REGIMENTS DEM HAUPTMANN HUGO V. WENZ ZU NIEDERLAHNSTEIN 27.2.96. - 24.1.10". Darauf gestülpt der innen vergoldete Trinkbecher aus Silber in Form der Offiziers-Grenadiermütze des Regiments aus der Gründungszeit 1814. Teilweise vergoldet (Beschlag und Schuppenkette), graviert und mehrfarbig emailliert. Bis auf Schäden der Emaille des Federstoßes in sehr guter Erhaltung. Gesamthöhe 20,8 cm, Gesamtgewicht 623 g, Gewicht des Bechers 240 g.
Es handelt sich hierbei um das Abschiedsgeschenk an Hugo von Wenz anlässlich der Versetzung in den Generalstab 1910. Das Datum 1896 bezieht sich auf die Offiziersreife und das Patent zum Secondleutnant im Regiment, in dem er 1898 Bataillonsadjutant und 1902 Kompaniechef wurde. Dem Generalstab im Bayerischen Kriegsministerium gehört er bis zum Ende des Ersten Weltkriegs an, 1921 erfolgt seine Beförderung zum Oberstleutnant, 1923 zum Oberst, 1924 wird er Chef des Stabes der 7. Division der Reichswehr und am 1. Februar 1927 Kommandeur des 20. Infanterie-Regiments. Nach seiner Beförderung zum Generalmajor am 1. Februar 1928 wird er im November des Jahres noch zum Kommandanten von München ernannt. 1930 wird er aus dem aktiven Dienst verabschiedet.

The dedication plaque bearing the blackened inscription "DAS OFFIZIERS-KORPS DES INFANTERIE LEIB-REGIMENTS DEM HAUPTMANN HUGO V. WENZ ZU NIEDERLAHNSTEIN 27.2.96. - 24.1.10" is supported by three grenades made of dark-coloured bronze and mounted on a three-pronged, fire-gilt bronze plinth, engraved with the registration number "63". On top, the silver drinking cup with gilt interior is shaped like an officer's grenadier cap from the time of the regiment's establishment in 1814. Partially gilt (fittings and chinscales), engraved and enamelled in colour. In excellent condition except for some damage to the enamel of the feather plume. Total height 20.8 cm, total weight 623 g, weight of the drinking cup 240 g.
Commissioned as a farewell gift to Hugo von Wenz on his transfer to the General Staff in 1910. The date 1896 refers to his graduation as an officer and patent to second lieutenant with the regiment in which he was promoted to battalion adjutant in 1898 and company commander in 1902. Remaining in the General Staff of the Bavarian War Ministry until the end of World War I, he was also promoted to Oberstleutnant in 1921, to Oberst in 1923, and in 1924 he became Chief of Staff of the 7th Reichswehr Division and on 1 February 1927 Commander of the 20th Infantry Regiment. After his promotion to Generalmajor on 1 February 1928, he was appointed Commander of Munich. He retired from active service in 1930.
