STILLLEBEN MIT BÜCHERN UND BLUMEN
Öl auf Leinwand. 48,5 x 55 cm (Rahmen 58 x 65 cm). Unten rechts monogrammiert und datiert 'GB 1922'. Rahmen.
Der vornehmlich durch seine Stillleben bekannt gewordene Künstler Georg Breitwieser absolvierte zunächst eine Ausbildung zum Glasmaler, bevor er anschließend an der Künstlerkolonie Darmstadt sowie später an der Kunstschule des Kunstgewerbemuseums in Berlin studierte. 1921 kehrte Breitwieser nach Darmstadt zurück, wo er als freischaffender Maler tätig war. Seine Werke, die vor allem auf den Eindruck von Tiefenwirkung verzichten und vorzugsweise ein dunkleres Kolorit aufweisen, enthalten einige Merkmale der Neuen Sachlichkeit.
